William David Orr

William David Orr passed away from this life at his home in Dyer, Tennessee, on August 5, 2024, at the age of 86. David was born in Dyer, Tennessee to parents Aubrey and Thelma Orr on May 31, 1938. David grew up in Dyer and graduated from Dyer High School. He met Joyce Wingo from Trenton, and they were married on September 12, 1956, and enjoyed almost 64 years together. David attended Bethel College and he joined the National Guard for a short period. David and Joyce moved to Chicago where he worked at the Ohara and Midway Airports. While in Chicago, both of his children were born. Returning to Dyer after 5 years in Chicago, David joined his father, Aubrey, in the family farm business. David farmed until his retirement in 2001 at the age of 62.

David served on the Gibson County Farmers CO-OP board, served as a deacon and an elder in the Dyer Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he has been a lifelong member, and he served on the Farmers and Merchants Bank Board of Directors for years. David and Joyce were fortunate to experience many traveling adventures together. They enjoyed RVing across the country and cruising to breathtaking places.

David and Joyce shared many lifelong “couples” friends, church friends, and toot and tell it coffee friends. David was known for his love for his family, sense of humor, business savvy, devotion to the Dyer Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Bobbitt Cemetery.

David is preceded in death by his father, James Aubrey Orr, and his mother, Thelma Lavina Orr; his loving wife, Joyce Orr; his sister, Barbra Ann Harris; and his grandson, William Aubrey Orr.

David is survived by his son, James Thomas Orr (Donna); his daughter, Mary Gay London (Brett); grandchildren, April Martin (Brian), John David Orr (Michelle), Jacob London, and Josh London, and great-grandchildren, Zoey Orr, Braden Orr, Fletcher Martin and Orren Martin. 

David’s visitation will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 2:00- 4:00 pm at the Dyer Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the celebration of life will begin at 4:00.

David will be laid to rest at Bobbitt Cemetery in Dyer, Tennessee.
