Robert Weaver

Robert Thomas (Bob) Weaver passed away July 7, 2014, at the family farm in Dyer, TN. Karnes & Son is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Weaver was born in West Point, MS, and as the son of a Baptist preacher, lived in several Southern towns. He graduated from Waynesboro High School in Waynesboro, TN. He attended Union University and received his Bachelors Degree in Business from National University in San Diego, CA. He earned a Masters of Business Administration degree at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He is survived by Dr. Carol Hall Weaver, his wife of 45 years, whom he met on their first day as students at Union University while registering for classes. Mr. Weaver is also survived by his son Benjamin Hall Weaver of St. Louis along with Ben’s wife Michele and their three sons, William, Brenden, and Ethan, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Weaver is also survived by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Joe Weaver of Corinth, MS, and his two sisters, Cynthia Wallin and Laura Weaver. Mr. Weaver’s first job was as photographer at The Jackson Sun. He and his wife, a reporter in the Living Section, often teamed for stories. In the mid-70s, they moved to San Marcos, CA, where he worked in graphics for NAPP Systems. Their son was born during this time in California. In the early 80s, Mr. Weaver was transferred to Lake St. Louis, MO, where the family lived for nearly 20 years. He traveled extensively for his job but also filled his life with community service. He was an elder and Sunday School teacher at Chapel of the Lake in Lake St. Louis and was a city alderman for seven years. While in Missouri, Mr. Weaver became active in Boy Scouts of America. He started his involvement as a Cub Scout Webelos Den Leader and became an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 972. He also worked at the district level for Boone Trails District in several leadership capacities and at the council level for Greater St. Louis Area council. He received several recognitions including the District Award of Merit and was Brotherhood Honor in the Scouting fraternity, Order of the Arrow. He wrote the manual for Rocks and Ropes for the Greater St. Louis Area Council. He was a Wood Badge Raven. After moving to Jackson, TN, he continued to serve in Boy Scouts, becoming a District Commissioner and ultimately Council Commissioner, the lead Council volunteer position in Boy Scouts. In recognition of his many contributions to Boy Scouts, he was awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver award. He was on staff for the National Jamboree in 2010, held in Washington, DC. The values of Boy Scouts shaped his life and that of his family; his son was awarded Vigil Honor, the top award in Order of the Arrow, was an Order of the Arrow Chapter Chief, and is an Eagle Scout with several palms. Mr. Weaver returned to West Tennessee in 1998 when his wife Carol became a Professor of Biology at Union University. During this time, he worked as Technical Sales Manager for Fujifilm. He provided technical advice for major printing houses in five states with the majority of his customers in Chattanooga, TN. He specialized in printing inks and presses. In April he received one of the top sales awards for his company. Mr. Weaver remained an avid outdoorsman his entire life and loved spending time on the family farm near Dyer. He especially enjoyed meeting and talking with members of the farming community in Dyer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Humboldt, where he served several years as a Sunday School teacher. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Karnes and Son in Dyer with services at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the same location. Dr. Greg McFadden, pastor of First Baptist Church of Humboldt will officiate with Tim Rutledge, Steve Rutledge, Isaac Hall, Curtis Gillespie, Lynn Denton, and Ethan Denton serving as pall bearers. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Dyer.
