Rita Joyce Shoemaker

Mrs. Rita Joyce Shoemaker, age 77 of Rutherford, Tennessee, passed away from this life on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Shoemaker will be conducted on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 2PM in the Rutherford chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Lane Self officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford Cemetery. 

She was born January 24, 1947, in Chicago, IL; the daughter of the late James & Juanita (King) Lowrance. Rita worked at First Citizens National Bank as a Customer Service Associate before retirement, and attended First Baptist Church of Dyer. 

She is survived by her loving husband, Gary Shoemaker; four children, William Bradley Montgomery, Darrell “Shane” Montgomery, Melissa Smith (Randy), Ashley Shoemaker (Katelyn); sister-in-law, Elaine Fowler; two grandsons, T.J. Montgomery, Dallas Montgomery, three granddaughters, Mallorie Smith, Emily Smith, Addison Shoemaker; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brother, Bobby Fowler; and her parents.

Pallbearers will be members of First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made in Rita’s honor to the American Heart Association (http://www.heart.org).

The family will receive friends from 11:30AM until service time on Monday. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Rita Joyce Shoemaker.
