Rex Mercer

Mr. Rex Harvey Mercer, age 85, of Dyer, Tennessee, passed away from this life on July 22, 2012, at Regional Hospital of Jackson. Funeral services for Mr. Mercer will be conducted on Wednesday, July 25, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home of Dyer with Bro. Steve Hemann officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery of Dyer. Mr. Mercer was born October 10, 1926, in Perry County, Tennessee; the son of the late Jess Thomas and Myrtle Lee Whitwell Mercer. He worked at American Metal. He served his country with the US Army. Military honors will be observed. Mr. Mercer is survived by his spouse, Elsie Mercer, one son, David Mercer and wife Jenny; two granddaughters, Alisha Owens with spouse Brian, Meagan Hurley and spouse Phillip; great-grandchildren, Anna Belle Hurley, Avery Owens, and Brady Owens. He is also survived by three siblings, Nell Eddlemon, Jimmie Ruth Aydolotte, and Jeannette Powell. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald Mercer. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Rex Harvey Mercer.
