Mr. Raymond Lyndell Powell (fondly known by his friends as “Sweet” and “Lard”) age 88, of Lexington, Tennessee, passed away from this life on September 29, 2015 at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Powell will be conducted on Sunday, October 4, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home in Dyer, Tennessee, with Bro. Skelton officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Dyer, Tennessee.
Raymond was born July 10, 1927, in Dyer, Tennessee, the son of the late Erby and Lattie Lee Green Powell. Raymond was a retired manager with Felsenthal Plastic Mfg. Company in Chicago.
Raymond and his wife Dorothy were both members of Shiloh Baptist Church in Jack’s Creek, where they were both baptized about 2006.
Raymond is survived by his beloved daughter, Karyl Powell Fisher and husband Phil of Lexington; three grandchildren, Jennifer Lewis and husband Lee of Wildersville, Amanda Jowers and husband Flynn of Obion, Michael Fisher and wife Alaina of Nashville; three great-grandchildren, Broox Lewis, Aliya Jowers, Eli Jowers; one brother, Bobby Powell, and one sister-in-law, Frances M. Powell. Raymond was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 68 years, Dorothy Jean (King) Powell, grandchildren Carter Lee Lewis and Clara Lynn Lewis, and brothers Connie Wade Powell, William “Billy” Powell, Aubrey Lee Powell, Erby Earl “Junior” Powell, and L. C. Powell.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2015, in the chapel of Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Dyer.
