Raymond Mccurdy

Raymond Giles McCurdy was born September 12, 1929 in Currie Tuck, Tennessee to parents C. H. (Lum) McCurdy and Mary Forrester McCurdy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Frank, Marion, and Finis. He was the son of a share cropper and lived his childhood in Lake County, TN during the depression. He and his family lived in 13 different houses over a twelve-year period. He moved to Dyer, TN in 1941. During the 1950’s he served four years in the military, two of which he spent stationed at Fort Hood Texas in the U.S. Army. He worked several years in Greenville, Mississippi with Texas Gas and returned to live in Dyer continuing to work for Texas Gas in nearby Kenton while farming on the side. In 1966, he began farming full time. Mr. McCurdy was a member of Dyer First United Methodist Church, Dyer Masonic Lodge, Dyer City Council, and various other community and service organizations. Mr. McCurdy was a true Southern Gentleman who loved the Lord, his family, and the land. He was happiest on a bulldozer or a dirt pan. He loved all challenges and opportunities his years in farming provided. He developed life-long friendships through his many endeavors. Mr. McCurdy is survived by his wife Christine Coleman McCurdy, son Bob (Suzanne) McCurdy, daughter Kay (Mike) Ryan; grandchildren: Tom (Katie) McCurdy, Jay (Vicky) McCurdy, Liz (Ben) Dodd, Mary-Michael Ryan, Sarah-Catherine (Scott) Formiller; and great grandchildren: Lily Ann McCurdy, Tate McCurdy, Eve McCurdy, and Charlie Dodd.
