Mrs. Melissa Leon Kernodle, age 92, of Kenton, Tennessee, passed away from this life on July 29, 2013, at Dyer Nursing Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Kernodle will be conducted on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Kenton with Bro. Wayne Perkins, and Dr. Brian Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in Sunnyside cemetery, Kenton, Tennessee.
Mrs. Kernodle was born November 23, 1920, in Chester County, Tennessee; the daughter of the late Ocie and Effie Patterson. She was retired from Dyer Brown Shoe Company.
Mrs. Kernodle is survived by three daughters, Virginia Wilson of Memphis, Barbara Hunt (Ronnie) of Kenton, Juanita Clark of Kenton; sisters, Nancy Durrance (Joe) of Selmer, Lila Thomas (Kent) of Peoria, IL; brothers J.W. Patterson (Tommie Jean) of Henderson, Hugh Patterson (Kettye) of Washington, IL; also by grandchildren, Rhonda Poore (Michael), Chad Hunt (Christi), Celina Johnson (Kevin), Brent Thornton, Chris Sims, George Wilson (Byrn), and Kern Wilson. She is also survived by two very special caretakers, Mike and Linda Holder and a best friend Permelia Thompson (Permie).
She was preceded in death by her husband George Edward Kernodle, daughter Janice Kernodle, brothers Wallace Patterson, Ruben Patterson, Ocie Patterson Jr., Tommie Patterson, and a sister Blonnie Keathley.
The family will receive friends from 3 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Kenton. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Melissa Leon Kernodle.
