Jackson- Mrs. Marlene Joy Cathey, Jackson, TN as born January 8,1936 the daughter of the late Harold Wilson Sr. and Mary Wilson in South Fork, Pennsylvania. Marlene was rasied in Johnstown, Pennesylvania as one of seven siblings. She graduated from Johnstown High School. After high school she attended Bethany College and received her Bachelors of Science degree in Education. She earned a Masters of Science in Education degree at UT Martin in 1981. She was united in marriage to Charles Allen Cathey on October 16, 1980. She begins her teaching career in 1958 in California. Marlene later moved to Tennessee and taught in Trenton and Milan City school districts. In 1988 she took a position with Jackson State Community College and the University of Memphis. Mrs. Cathey retired from University of Memphis with over 50 Years in the classroom. She was a member of the Northside Methodist Church, Jackson. Marlene recently was honored for attaining 50 years of membership in the Order of The Eastern Star in State of Tennessee with 50-year pin.
She departed this life on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital at the age of 78 years.
She is survived by her husband Charles Cathey, Jackson; stepson, Bryan Cathey and wife Lori Cathey, Dyer, TN, step daughter Tracy Cathey, Manchester, New Hampshire; two sisters, Alice, Maxine and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cathey was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry, Harold Jr.;two sisters Jane, Pricilla and step daughter Regina (Gigi) Cathey.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 22 at 2:30 P.M. at Oakwood Cemetery in Dyer.
