Our Momma, Margaret Lucille (Carter) Selph passed peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early this morning, February 23, 2018. It was a glorious ending to a life well spent loving her family and the Lord.
Mom was one of four kids; in the natural pecking order of things, she was third, there were two older sisters, Elaine and Helen and a younger brother Charles, all of whom have preceded her in death. Her Mom and Dad, our Granny Eva (Holley) Carter and Granddad Baden Cater were both sweet and loving folk. Mom would often say it was her whole world to crawl up into her Dad's lap to feel safe and comforted, while no doubt our Granny was cooking something in the kitchen. Granny must have spent over half of every day cooking, as she always had on her apron and some cooking utensil in her hand!
Mom was married briefly to a gentleman, Mike's Dad, before meeting and marrying George Robert (also deceased) and having three more boys, Danny, George E and Me. Everyone will tell you she loved "her boys"!
Our little group was a tried and true "Navy Family". After marrying George Robert (I love using both first and middle names), we were literally off and running. We moved to and lived all up and down the East Coast, from Quonset Point, RI to Guantanamo (Gitmo) Bay, Cuba before finally arriving in Millington the Summer of 1965. Many of these moves Mom had to orchestrate by herself with what little help she got from the "fearsome foursome" (me and the brothers), because Dad was always out aboard ship somewhere. I think that's why She loved us so much, we were always there for her to love and even lean on.
She enjoyed her later years because she was in good health and pretty much an independent gal. She loved driving through the country side and stopping at little places to eat. No matter what we all were doing, you always knew the "unspoken" question on her mind was, what's for lunch!
All her boys, over the last year or so, had "our talks" with her and knew she was slowing down quite a bit. Mom was more than ready to be with her Lord; her only concern was for the lost people of this world, she didn't want them to suffer through the end times, she desperately wanted them to get Saved. I will leave you with that thought, that's the way she felt.
She is survived by her sons Mike & Sally Hensley, Robert Selph, Danny & Sandy Selph, George & Felicia Selph. Grandsons Shane & Char Selph, Joe & Courtney Selph, Shawn & Ashley Selph, Blaine & Allie Williams and Granddaughters Selena Selph, Morgan Selph, Kristin & Mason Akers. And twelve sweet, sweet Great Grandchildren Kelton, Austin, Makayla, Peyton, Macie, Kyla, Braxton, JP, Addyson, Ella Grace, Nathan and Tenley Rae.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity, in memory of Margaret L. Selph. Mom had dementia, so a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association would also be appropriate. Love All Ya'll & may God Bless you each and every one.
