Louise Bonds

A life-long resident of Dyer, Louise Robinson Bonds was born February 5, 1918, in her family’s home place in downtown Dyer. Mrs. Bonds died Monday, July 16, at Gibson General Hospital after a short illness. Services for Mrs. Bonds will be conducted on July 18, at 10:00 a.m. in Karnes & Son Funeral Home of Dyer with Bro. Johnny Watson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery of Dyer. The daughter of George and Lucile Robinson, she was educated in Dyer Public Schools and attended Belmont University in Jackson, MS. and Union University in Jackson, TN. At Union, she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity and was active in the Gibson County Chi Omega Organization. She married Wilfred Bonds who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by son, George, her parents, and brother, Lucian, and granddaughter, Kathleen. Louise is survived by her son, John Bonds and wife, Mary, of Atlanta, GA., a daughter, Lucy Bonds of Dyer, a daughter-in-law, Sandra Bonds of Nashville, a brother, Bob Robinson, of Dyer, grandchildren Avery Bonds Hobby (Jim) of Arlington, TX., Julia Bonds Duke (Lee) of Smyrna, GA. and Robin Bonds of Nashville, TN. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Megan Hobby, Blake Hobby, Abby Duke, Mary Cate Duke and many nieces and nephews and their families. Louise was a talented musician. She taught piano and organ to many and played the organ for her church for over 50 years. She was also noted for being able to recite poetry from memory, her favorite piece being “The Cremation of Sam McGee”. Louise was an enthusiastic amateur genealogist and was a member of Colonial Dames Sixteenth Century and the official historian of the family. She will be well remembered for her sense of style, especially her hat collection, her ability to laugh at herself, and her love of family. Family will receive friend from 6-8:30 p.m., July 17.
