Mr. Lonnie Alyn Allison, Jr., Retired SMSGT, age 72, of Charlotte Hall, Maryland, passed from this life on June 1, 2012. Funeral services for Retired SMSGT Allison will be conducted on June 9, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home with the family officiating. Interment will follow in Good Hope Cemetery of Dyer. Mr. Allison was born August 28, 1939, in St. Louis, Missouri; the son of the late Lonnie and Bertha Pauline Needham Allison, Sr. He served his country for 28 years with the US Air Force as a ground radio communications superintendent. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. Military honors will be observed. Mr. Lonnie Allison received the following medals and commendations: Meritorious Service Medal with two bronze oak leaf cluster, AF Commendation Medal with one bronze oak leaf cluster, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal with bronze numeral 2, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with one silver oak leaf cluster and one bronze oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal, AF Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with two bronze oak leaf clusters, AF overseas Short Tour Ribbon with one bronze oak leaf cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars, AF Distinguished/Presidential Unit Citation, AF Organizational Excellence Award, AF Outstanding Unit Award, AF Outstanding Unit Award with combat V device, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm device, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and an AF Good Conduct Medal with a silver and two bronze oak leaf cluster. He is survived by three children, Alyn Lonnie Allison, Anna Maria Theresia Allison and spouse Mark Alan Jones, Charlotte Maria Cornelia Allison and spouse Vincent Gene Cutcher; the children’s mother, Anna Maria Cornelia Van Mourik Allison Maddox; one brother, John William Allison and spouse Shirley, and one sister, Patricia Ann Allison Wolfe and husband Carl Monroe Wolfe, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, June 8. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Retired SMSGT Lonnie Alyn Allison, Jr.
