Lela Lou Yergin Howard

FUNERAL SERVICE FOR MRS. LELA HOWARD HAVE BEEN CHANGE DUE TO FLOODING CONDITIONS FROM THE HEAVY RAINS LAST WEEK. THE SERVICE HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO MONDAY, APRIL 14, 2025, WITH VISITATION  THAT WILL BEGIN AT 1:00 PM. AND GO UNTIL SERVICE TIME AT 2:00 PM. FUNERAL SERVICE AT 2:00 pm. 

Lela Lou Yergin Howard passed away on April 1, 2025, at 103 years of age. She was born in Kenton, TN, on October 18, 1921. After graduating from Kenton High School, she completed business school in Union City, TN. In 1942, she and her high school sweetheart, Joe Howard, married. After WWII, they made their home in Memphis, TN. There, Lela worked for Sears for approximately 30 years.

Germantown Baptist Church was her church. She loved her church and through the years, served as Sunday School, VBS, and nursery volunteer, participating in many programs at her church such as the WMU, the Merry Makers, and the Baptist Auxiliary.

Lela is survived by her son, Bill Howard (Debi) of Millington, TN; her daughter, Marianne Albarracin (Alberto) of Corinth, MS. Mamaw is survived by her four grandsons and families, Ben Albarracin (Allison) of Corinth, MS, Alex Howard (Devon) of Bartlett, TN, Aaron Howard (Amanda) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Christian Albarracin (Katty) of Corinth, MS; eight great-grandchildren, Dustin Albarracin, Lily Howard, Asher Howard, Rosalyn Howard, Lyla Howard, Christian Albarracin, Pierce Albarracin, Clay Albarracin; brother, Billy Dee Yergin (Ruby) of Rutherford, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Lela Yergin Howard was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Howard; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Yergin; brothers, Glen Yergin, Joe Mac Yergin, Aaron Yergin, Coy Yergin; sister, Helen Y. Renfrow; and a grandchild, Lila Albarracin.

Visitation with family and friends will be held Monday, April 14, 2025,  at the Walnut Grove Baptist Church beginning at 1PM until service time at 2PM. Burial will follow at the Walnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
