John Hayes

John Richard Hayes of Dyer, TN passed away at his home on 7/27/2017 surrounded by members of his immediate family. John was born on 11/27/1935, the first of five children of Ellen Margaret Richards-Hayes and John Hartwell Hayes, in Alpena, MI. Baptized and Confirmed at St. Bernard’s Church, John’s early education began at the parish school. He attended high school on the campus of the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. John earned a B.S. and MBA degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His professional career included industrial management for General Motors, the Teledyne Corporation, and Eagle Pitcher in Hamilton, IN. John and his wife Maria Quissar-Hayes (deceased) raised 7 children: Maria, John,Jr. (deceased), Monica, Patrick, Thomas, Joseph, and Rebecca. A proud father and husband, John encouraged his children and 8 grandchildren to develop their talents to the best of their ability and to enjoy sporting activities. Grandchildren include: Sarah and Justin Shaulis, Alex and Avery Hayes, Danielle and Ashley Hayes, Sam Koby, and Warren Carroll. John’s siblings include Thomas, Mary Hayes-Field, Susanna Hayes, and Frank Hayes. The public is welcome to visit John’s family at the Karnes & Son Funeral Home in Dyer on July 30, 2017, Sunday evening from 5:00 until 8:00. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Humboldt at 10:00 a.m. on July 31, 2017. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Dyer immediately following Mass.
