Jimmy Ireton Winters

Jimmy Ireton Winters, age 88 of Dyer, Tennessee, passed away from this life on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Funeral services for Mr. Winters will be conducted on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 11AM in the chapel of North Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Bro. Tony Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 10AM till service time, with burial following in North Union Cemetery.

He was born July 24, 1935, in Gibson County, TN; the son of the late Ernest & Aline (Barlett) Winters. Mr. Jimmy started his career with the US Postal Service in Union City as a postal carrier, and was promoted to postal supervisor of operations, to which he retired, in November of 1990, with 32 years of service. He was an avid horse rider, and horse farrier. Jimmy was a member of North Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church for approximately 70 years and enjoyed teaching the youth the Lord’s word with his dog, Max, by his side. Mr. Jimmy was also a board member at Camp Clark Williamson. He served his country with the US Navy, aboard the USS Hornet CVA-12 during WWII, as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Class A. Military honors will be observed.

Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Bryan (Bo); his special beloved, Tiffany Harris, Kasey Harris (Courtney), Lydia and Baker; sister, JoAnn Reed; and granddaughter, Rachel Bryan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Lavera Winters; two sons, David Gene Winters, Jimmy Ireton Winters, Jr.; and two sisters, Faye Kilpatrick, and Christine Morrow.

Pallbearers are Stephen Reed, Barry Reed, Johnny Reed, William Sims, Mike Cardwell, and Todd Littleton.  Honorary pallbearers are Scott Curtis, and Richard McCaver.
