April 30, 1919 — March 5, 2013

Janie Sue Scott Tilghman Greene, of Rutherford, Tennessee, died at 5:20 pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Centralia Fireside House. Janie had lived in Centralia for the past 10 years with her daughter D. Ann Davenport and husband David. She was born on April 30, 1919, in Yorkville, TN, and would have celebrated her 94th birthday this year. Mrs. Greene was the widow of Andrew Paris Tilgham who preceded her in death on October 10, 1957, and of George Martin Greene who preceded her in death on March 28, 1990. Mrs. Greene graduated from Newbern High School in 1936. She began her college education at Freed-Hardeman College in Henderson, TN. in 1936. She completed her degree at Bethel College in McKenzie, TN. in 1970. "Miss Janie" taught at Kenton School from 1938 to 1943. She began teaching at Yorkville 20 years later and retired in 1986. Her students loved everything about her except "Herman" her paddle and those long social study questions! Her 4-H public speaking students won many county and district events. One of her classroom rules was from the Bible: "Let all things be done decently and in order." (I Cor. 14:40). Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Jessie Scott, her older sister, Annie Maude Brown and her husband Edward; her brother, Thomas Scott and his wife Lavonne; her son Bill Greene; her grandson, Andrew John Davenport. Janie is survived by a son, Terry A. Tilgham and wife Judy, older granddaughter, Sandy Wells husband Greg. Their children are Rachel Mohon and John Ford. Her younger granddaughter is Terri Renee Douglas-Tilgham and husband Allen. All reside in Guthrie, KY. Granddaughter Susie Lowrance and husband Casey live in Christiansburg, VA. They are expecting a son, Oliver Wilson, who will be born later in March. Susan is the daughter of David and D. Ann Davenport, Centralia, IL. She also leaves a son Jerry Greene of Arlington, TN, and a son Mike Greene and wife Lynn of Tyson Store,TN. Mike's family include Chad Greene and wife Kristi and their children Ryleigh and Andrew Martin all of Rutherford, TN. daughter Wendy Carroll, her daughters McMkinley and Ayden all of Dyer, TN. and Mike's youngest son Tyson Greene of Tyson Store, TN. Lynn's daughters are Stormy Victory, Bri Kesterson, Blair Duncan. Stormy Victory and son Laken live in Union City,TN. Bri's children are Scarlet, Nick, and Aleigha all of Tyson Store, TN. Mrs Greene's other grandchildren and great grandchildren are Marty and Brett Greene, the sons of the late Bill Greene. Marty Greene , wife Melanie and children Autumn, Hunter, and Amber all live in Tiptonville,TN. Brett and his wife Mary Beth and their children Hannah, Elle, Maggie, and Zoe live in Mobile, AL. Mrs. Greene's nephews and nieces and their children include Tom Scott III of McMinnville,TN. and his sons Todd and Cliff Scott of Charlotte NC. another nephew Ralph Scott of Henderson, TN. and niece Susan Bradford, husband Frank of Henderson, TN. and their children, Clifton Laird of Jacksonville, AR. Sarah and Emily Laied of Nashville, TN. Olivia Bradford of Henderson, TN. and Brittany Bradford of Honolullu, HI. Mrs. Greene was a member of the Rutherford Church of Christ. She was a woman of great determination, courage, and love. This Bible verse best describes her life: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" (II Timothy 4:7). Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Rutherford, TN. Interment will follow in North Union Cemetery in Tyson Store, TN. Friends may call from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm. on Saturday evening at Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Rutherford, TN.
