Mr. James A. Hill, age 92, formerly of Dyer, Tennessee, passed away from this life on January 26, 2012, at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Funeral services for Mr. Hill will be conducted on Monday, January 30, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Calhoun and Bro. Don Barnett officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery of Dyer.
Mr. Hill was born March 2, 1919, in Dyer; the son of the late Frank and Grace Thomason Hill. He served 30 years with the United States Navy and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer-4. Mr. Hill received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Pacific Theater (Philippine Liberation) Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Military honors will be observed.
Mr. Hill was a 32 degree Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mr. Hill is survived by one son, Ron (Betty) Hill, one daughter, Carolyn (Charlie) Hammonds, one stepdaughter, Linda (Anthony) Jones, and one stepson, Ben (Nancy) LeDuke; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Francis Taylor, Catherine Goodman, Maxine Horner; cousin Kareen Griffin and dear friend Marc Sims. He was preceded in death by his spouse, Lucille Marie (Chris) Christenson Hill and his parents.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 29. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. James “Buster” Hill.
