Floye Edna Ashe, daughter of Stephen Emmerson Ethridge and Thula Jane Halford Davis, was born, April 12, 1915, west of Rutherford, Tennessee in the Walnut Grove community. She departed this life, Thursday, August 1, 2013, in University Hospital, Columbia, Missouri at the age of ninety-eight years, three months and twenty days.
On March 16, 1935, in South Fulton, Kentucky, she was united in marriage to Cullye V. Ashe and to this union three children were born. Together they shared forty-five years of marriage until his passing in October 1980.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother; three sisters; a son Travis Ashe and a granddaughter, Cassandra Lipe.
Survivors include her daughters, Janie Longhibler and husband Joe of Sunrise Beach, Missouri and Sandra Prainito and husband Joe of O’Fallon, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Jim Miller and wife Dorothy, Barbara Willtrout and husband Owen III, Patricia Horner and husband, Randy, Athena Napier, David Prainito, Angela Lowery and husband Mike, Denise Lee and husband Scott, Frances Ashe, Ric Ashe and wife Laura and JoAnn Ashe and Lyndell Jones; twenty-three great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Tarah, Shawn, Owen IV, Steve, Brandon, Tyler, Michaela, Randi, Mindy, D.J., Ashley, Bradley, Mike, Richard, Jacob, Jessie, Cheyanne, Terra, Brittany, Chris, Megan and Scotty; eighteen great-great-grandchildren, Delia, Justice, Riley, Matthew, Abbey, Kyle, Claire, Issac, Zane, Jaden, Kenzi, Dennis, Dillon, Abigail, Emmalyn, Joey, Madeleine and Dexter and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Floye was raised on a farm outside Rutherford, Tennessee and attended Lonoke School. She played guard for the school basketball team and could have gone to the State Tournament. She worked as a waitress for the Sugarbowl in St. Louis and Romine’s Restaurant. She later worked for a book bindery where she retired from.
Foye made a profession of faith and was a member of Riverview Garden Baptist Church from 1953 to 1994. She was a member of O’Fallon Baptist Church from 1994 to 2001. At present she was a member of First Baptist Church of Sunrise Beach. She attended the WMU at her church in Tennessee. She loved the Word of God and had read the Bible through several times.
In her spare time, she enjoyed cross stitching and quilting. She had the opportunity to travel to all the states except Hawaii. Her most significant trip was attending a Billy Graham Crusade.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday in Sunnyside Cemetery, Kenton, Tennessee. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday and a second visitation from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday all in the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and left at the funeral home.
