September 27, 1928 — October 9, 2015

Claude Stephenson, age 87 of Dyer, Tennessee, passed away from this life on Friday, October 9, 2015, at Dyer Nursing Home. Funeral services for Stephenson will be conducted on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home in Dyer with Bro. Randy Mutter officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, in Dyer, Tennessee. Mr. Stephenson was born September 27, 1928, the son of the late Freeman and Ruth Stephenson. He had just turned 87. He attended Currie and Dyer Schools. He had several jobs including working many years at Brown Shoe, Cokers Tool & Die, Power Tech, a carpenter and brick layer at Piney Campground. He loved fishing and camping, gardening and singing in the choir. He was very outgoing and loved being around people. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dyer, and a Level 3 Mason. He has missed our Mother for the last 3 years. Now he has gone to be with the Lord and her. We will love and miss him. Mr. Stephenson is survived by his children, Judy (Billy) Barron, Ronnie (Cathy) Stephenson, and Richard (Nancy) Stephenson; his grandchildren, Kelly (Scott) Greathouse, Josh (Miranda) Stephenson, Amy Sawyer, Julie (Michael) Landrum, Wesley Stephenson, Peggy Jones, Laura Stephenson, and Phillip Stephenson; two step-grandchildren, Heather McCollum and Mark Fairless III; ten great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and his sister, Mara Nell (Billy Jo) Roberts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Stephenson and a brother, J.W. Stephenson. The family would like to thank his caregivers Morningside, Jackson General and Dyer Nursing Home. Memorials can made to the First United Methodist Church of Dyer Building Fund. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2015 in the chapel of Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Dyer. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Claude Stephenson.
