Mr. Charles Gary Saffell, age 70 of Rutherford, Tennessee, passed away from this life on Monday, September 11, 2017, at Jackson Madison County Hospital. Graveside services for Mr. Saffell will be conducted on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 10:00am at the New Concord Cemetery, in Kenton, with Bro. Johnny Witherspoon officiating. Interment will immediately follow.
He was born November 14, 1946 in Oakland, CA; the son of the late Charles N. & Ruth N. (Rockart) Saffell. He was a Graphic Arts Customer Service Representative for the City of Las Vegas; retired Army Master Sergeant, with 12 years of service with the Navy, and 17 years of service with the Army; Chaplain for the American Legion; lifetime member of Searchlight VFW Post 10468 in Nevada; member of New Concord Baptist Church; and gave free guitar lessons at his home. He served his country with the US Navy, serving in the Vietnam War; and the US Army, serving in Desert Storm. Military honors will be observed.
He is survived by wife of 50 years, Patricia Saffell; children, David C. Saffell (Mischell) of Rutherford, Amy R. Merrick (David) of Kenton, and Todd J. Saffell (Shannon) of Henderson, Nevada; siblings, Guy E. Saffell of Minneapolis, MN, and Gregg G. Saffell of St. Paul, MN; and seven granddaughters, Amanda P. Saffell, Jessica E. Saffell, Kaci L. Merrick, Hailey E. Saffell, Samantha L. Saffell, Ashley R. Saffell, and Julia G. Saffell. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Suzanne Culver; and one granddaughter, Shayla A. Larson.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm-8:00pm on Friday, September 15, 2017, at the Rutherford chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Charles Gary Saffell.
