Charles J. “Charlie” Owens, age 84, U.S. Army veteran, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1986, formerly of Dyer, TN and Fort Wayne, IN, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born on June 9, 1939, in Dyer, TN.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce E. Owens (nee Eickmeyer), whom he married March 3, 1961, loving father of Danita (Mike Hill) Owens of Lockport, IL and Rich (Lisa) Owens of Plano, IL and Grandpa of Joshua Owens, devoted son of the late Jeff and Eunice Owens, son-in-law of the late Ed and Mickey Eickmeyer, brother-in-law of Nancy (Curt) Rhoades of Surprise, AZ, fond cousin, uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.
Charlie grew up in Dyer, TN, was a 1957 graduate of Dyer High School and received a degree in Sociology from Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO. He served in the U.S. Army in the early 1960’s, working as an Army recruiter stationed in Ashland, KY and was later employed with the International Harvester Company for 50 years.
Charlie was a member of the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed reading, travel, genealogy, and sports.
Visitation was held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, 10:00 AM -12:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 1PM in Mount Olive Cemetery in Dyer.
