Services for James Eugene Roberts of Dyer, TN are Sunday, January 26, 2020, at First Assembly of God Church in Dyer, TN at 3:00 p.m. with visitation on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m.
James was born November 16, 1930, in Raven's Den, AR and died on January 22, 2020, after a long well-lived life. He was an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God for 54 years. He began his ministry while working for Clark Equipment Company in Niles, Michigan (where he was known as Jim) before moving to his first full time pastorate in Savannah, TN in 1963. He continued to pastor several community churches throughout West TN, Kentucky and SE Missouri, retiring for the third and final time when he was 88! He was fondly known as "Preacher Roberts" by those who attended his churches, and many who did not, but considered him "their" preacher.
Eugene, as she called him, was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Joyce Dunivan Roberts. He is survived by his seven children and their spouses, David and Nancy Roberts, Danny and Karen Roberts, Debra and Chet Fahrmeier, Ken and Missy Roberts, Carl and Theresa Roberts, Donna and John Saggio and Tammy and Chuck Wiggins. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren: Shane Roberts, Ross Roberts, Colin Roberts, Jenna-Clair Allen, Abbie Gottfried, Brianne Fahrmeier, Brent Fahrmeier, Nicole Roberts, Britton Roberts, Mychael Burns, Emily Case, Brandon Roberts, Jonathan Roberts, Angela Bzdafka, Nathan Saggio, and Tristan Wilbanks. He is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Mona Anglin and Betty Davis; cousin, Carolyn Roberts; and many nieces and nephews.
Bro. Roberts was loved by all. He pastored and loved humanity. His many loves included God's Word and preaching, his wife and family, gospel music, a good laugh shared with others and crappie fishing. He has preached his last sermon, sung his last song, and caught his last crappie on this earth but heaven rejoices at his Homecoming. May he "Rest High on That Mountain."
His family would like to thank the many medical professionals involved in his end of life care with a special thanks to Rev. Whitlow, Dr. Jim Crenshaw, Dr. John Crocker, UT Family Medicine and Dr. Misty Allen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Assembly of God Church in Dyer.
