With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ben Augustine Galego, who departed this life peacefully in the early hours of April 6, 2025, at the age of 80. A man of strength, faith, and immeasurable love, Ben’s legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
Born on June 27, 1944, in New Mexico to proud immigrants of Italian and German heritage, Ben carried the richness of both cultures throughout his life. At the age of 18, he moved to Chicago, where he began a life of service, spending 20 dedicated years as a police officer in the heart of the city. After his time on the force, he turned to his next chapter as the owner of a long-distance trucking company, where his love for the open road became both his work and his peace.
Eventually, Ben settled in Tennessee, where he spent the remainder of his years surrounded by the family he loved deeply.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonnie Galego, and his son, Ben Jr. He is survived by his children, Terry, Mario and Audrey, his loving sister Ellen, and a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were shaped by his patience, wisdom, and unconditional love.
Ben’s greatest joys came from family gatherings, long scenic drives, and quiet moments spent fishing. He was a man of calm strength, a listening ear, and a gentle hand—always leading with heart, humor, and humility.
Ben was ready to reunite with his beloved Bonnie and meet his Savior, walking boldly into the Kingdom of Heaven. His love, light, and wisdom will be forever missed, and always remembered.
