Alvin Harrell

Mr. Alvin Barker Harrell, age 84 of Kenton, Tennessee, passed away from this life on November 17th, at Methodist University Hospital - Memphis. Funeral services for Mr. Alvin Barker Harrell will be conducted on Sunday, November 20th at 2:00pm at New Salem Baptist Church with Bro. Darrell Morgan and Bro. Ed Marbury officiating. Interment will follow in New Salem Cemetery, in Mason Hall. He was born January 3, 1932 in Gibson County; the son of the late William Kirkland and Elma Barker Harrell. He retired from Goodyear and was a farmer. Mr. Harrell was the Chairman of Deacons at New Salem Baptist Church, a Sunday School teacher, a deacon, a building and grounds keeper, treasurer, and cemetery contact for the New Salem Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Peggy Owens Harrell; children, Janet Alexander of Lawrenceburg, TN, Joy Carson (Gary) of Mason Hall, Jennifer Chandler (Todd) of Mason Hall; grandchildren, Jeremy Carson (Lana), Jamie Carson (Brooke), Adam Alexander (Cheryl), Courtney Dillard (Brandon), Whitney Woods (Nathan), Mary Beth Chandler, Mason Chandler, Macy Ruth Chandler; great grandchildren, Julia Carson, Harrison Carson, Ellie Grace Carson, Max Dillard, Chase Alexander, Brady Alexander, Lizzie Kate Carson. He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Clint Alexander; and sibling, Dorothy Alexander. Pallbearers are Jeremy Carson, Adam Alexander, Jamie Carson, Mason Chandler, Brandon Dillard, Nathan Woods, Addison Davidson, and Jimmy Winters. Honorary pallbearers are Members of New Salem Men’s Sunday School Class, Dr. Samuel Bradberry, Kenneth Smithson, George Wade, Junior Murdock, and Bob Holloman, and Willie Williams. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made to either, St. Jude, or New Salem Cemetery Fund c/o Steve Page, 27 Tom Roden Rd., Kenton, TN. 38233, or TN. Baptist Children’s Home, or Kenton’s Pack the Bus (Backpack). The family will receive friends from 5:00pm-8:00pm on Saturday, November 19th, at New Salem Baptist Church, in Mason Hall.
